The Scrawls of War - Beirut

"When Ramallah, in Palestine, is put under curfew by the Israeli Army, nobody goes outside for days. The streets look completely deserted. But from a tall building, if you look out over the city, you can sometimes see hundreds of many-coloured kites, flown from the roof-terraces by the children of Ramallah. The children you can see here are flying kites to celebrate the spirit of the people of Dahyeh. Some kites you can see are flying away. These are for the children who are no longer here; they are no longer held down to the Earth".

August

There is no month in the whole year in which nature wears a more beautiful appearance than in the month of August. Spring has many beauties, and May is a fresh and blooming month, but the charms of this time of year are enhanced by their contrast with the winter season. August has no such advantage. It comes when we remember nothing but clear skies, green fields, and sweet-smelling flowers--when the recollection of snow, and ice, and bleak winds, has faded from our minds as completely as they have disappeared from the earth--and yet what a pleasant time it is! Orchards and cornfields ring with the hum of labour; trees bend beneath the thick clusters of rich fruit which bow their branches to the ground; and the corn, piled in graceful sheaves, or waving in every light breath that sweeps above it, as if it wooed the sickle, tinges the landscape with a golden hue.
-Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers

Project Runway!

It's back! I love this show!!

The dress that won last night was very nice but I think Robert Best's dress was prettier, I cant find a picture of the back of it but it was very cute. It was backless and the chains in the front were tied in a cute red bow in the back with another red bow at the waist. lovely...

Question?

Name
farouq -
Profession
Question I have two questions which I hope you give me an answer for.

1. Is it permissible to eat a cheese called “kraft Philadelphia”. The reason for this question is because the TV commercial of it has some concept that might be kufr such as a man and a woman acting as angles and eating in the sky or paradise!!! I mean is buying or eating such a product considered as supporting in kufr?

Answer In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

1. There is nothing wrong with eating cheese. TV commercials have nothing to do with making the food halal or haram.

Allah Almighty knows best.

Yah, I know I felt embarassed when I read it too...

For Asma

Asma thinks she was bit by a spider, so in her honor today's blog theme is spiders. We all need to educate ourselves and fight against this oppressive regime. There will be a protest this Sunday. Location: TBA

Spider Phobia

Spiders in Islam Spiders seem to be "OK" in Islam, so I guess we can't really hate them forever, but they are so scary

The first site has some scary pictures so be careful, I started to look at them, but it was too much for me.

Quote of the Day

“When we're incomplete, we're always searching for somebody to complete us. When, after a few years or a few months of a relationship, we find that we're still unfulfilled, we blame our partners and take up with somebody more promising. This can go on and on--series polygamy--until we admit that while a partner can add sweet dimensions to our lives, we, each of us, are responsible for our own fulfillment. Nobody else can provide it for us, and to believe otherwise is to delude ourselves dangerously and to program for eventual failure every relationship we enter.”

-Tom Robbins

Since this one is a bit too long, decided to post it, so you guys wont wonder for the rest of your lives what the complete quote was. So nice, I know.

"What attracts other people, you will never know. There can be some glamorous people who are unattractive. Because they become quite self-centered, self-obsessed, actually boring. It’s actually the personality, which is the key. "

More Rain

The rain is famous for falling on the just and unjust alike, but if I had the management of such affairs I would rain softly and sweetly on the just, but if I caught a sample of the unjust out doors I would drown him - Mark Twain

The quality of mercy is not strained; It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath. It is twice blessed- It blesseth him that gives, and him that takes.
-
William Shakespeare

Thy fate is the common fate of all; Into each life some rain must fall.”-
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

April is the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain.” - T.S. Eliot

and lastly...
"Let the rain fall down
And wake my dreams
Let it wash away
My sanity
'Cause I wanna feel the thunder
I wanna scream
Let the rain fall down
I'm coming clean, I'm coming clean"
-Hilary Duff
